RECAST | Updated Plan for the Keep Teaching Institutes
Dear colleagues,
In light of feedback from many of our community members, as well as the recent message from the White House (which “advised people not to gather in groups of more than 10”) we are updating our plan for the “Keep Teaching” institutes and will offer only remote options.
The new plan is to “flip” the classroom and ask participants to do some work asynchronously (on their own) before attending two remote, half-day sessions. These will take place Thursday and Friday of this week, and will repeat Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. All of these sessions will be recorded, although live participation will allow you to get feedback from facilitators and your peers.

Note: these sessions will work best if done in the order in which they’ve been designed, but you’ll get some benefit no matter how many sessions you’re able to attend and in which order.
DAY 1: Thursday, March 19 OR Tuesday March 24: 1-4 pm

In this session we will help you create a flexible plan for the entire quarter, including a remote teaching plan for the first 4 weeks
DAY 2: Friday, March 20 OR Wednesday, March 25: 1-4 pm
Led by: Amy Greene, Bridget Irish, Vito Valera, Lane Marie
In this session, we will walk you through the Canvas template and help you build your Canvas course (ideally using the plan you’ve developed on Day 1)

To do ahead of time:
- Read up: Take a look at How to Be a Better Online Teacher by Darby Flowers
- Reintroduce yourself to Canvas: Even if you’ve done it previously, please complete the Canvas Orientation, self-paced.
- Meet Canvas/Zoom: Walk through Help Wiki for the brand new Canvas/Zoom integration. This will be completed by the end of the day today (Monday, March 16), and we will send out the link to all attendees who RSVP.
- Do a test drive: Set up a meeting with a colleague in Zoom to see how it handles. As a reminder, Zoom accounts are free — and you can do up to 40 minutes per session with a free account. In addition, all spring offerings have access to a Zoom pro license through their spring Canvas course.
