Dear Staff and Faculty,

I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the hundreds of Evergreen staff and faculty who have been vaccinated and who have uploaded their vaccine records so far. For those folks who haven’t yet managed it, here’s a reminder of some key information, dates and deadlines regarding Evergreen’s vaccine requirement.

On May 6 this year, Evergreen announced our intent to require vaccinations of staff, students and faculty for fall quarter 2021, which begins September 27. We issued the college’s official vaccination policy and deadlines July 7.  And on August 18 Governor Inslee announced that Washington will require vaccinations for all community, public and private college staff and faculty across the state. We are waiting for details on those requirements.

Meanwhile, all Evergreen staff and those faculty who start on contract September 13 must be fully vaccinated by August 30. It’s very important to upload your vaccination card as soon as possible.

As our vaccination policy states, Evergreen employees not in compliance with this policy through vaccination or exemption may be excluded from working on campus and may be placed on unpaid leave until after their employment status is determined by Evergreen Human Resources.

Evergreen and the state of Washington have a duty to our students and employees to provide a safe work environment free of known hazards, and to reduce risks to those we serve. The vaccine requirement is a safety measure that offers the single most effective resource to combat COVID spread, prevent illness and death. It’s the best tool we have, and that’s why it is required to work at the college.

In becoming a fully vaccinated campus, we can best fulfill our mission to support students seeking the uniquely powerful education we have to offer.

Thanks again to those of you who have already uploaded your information. And thanks to all staff and faculty who are working hard to welcome students to Evergreen, through in-person, hybrid and remote programs, services and activities this fall.

–John
