Nominations for the Learning and Teaching Commons Faculty Fellowship

The Learning and Teaching Commons Faculty Scholar supports the mission and purpose of the Learning and Teaching Commons to promote a generative culture of interdisciplinary teaching and learning that is student-centered, equity-minded, and committed to access and excellence. This nine-month, half-time* position provides a faculty member with the opportunity to work on a project of their design, while also providing direct support to the Commons programming. 

Faculty have many demands on their time, and typically have teaching plans arranged years in advance. The added pressures of the past year have only heightened those barriers. 

In an effort to support more advanced planning, we are recruiting scholars for the next two academic years (2022-2023 and 2023-2024). As past Faculty Scholars, Joli Sandoz and Eric Stein, served as vital members of the Commons team making valuable contributions to the campus community.

*The half-time arrangement can vary depending on teaching commitments. The ideal arrangement includes at least one quarter of full time service. Examples of potential teaching arrangements are illustrated in the images below (click to enlarge).

The Application Process …

A call for applications will be released in late fall quarter with a mid-January deadline. The Learning and Teaching Commons Faculty Scholar position is open to all full-time faculty on full-time contracts in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding: Faculty Alternate Work Assignments (PDF).

Each application should include the following materials.

  1. 1-2 page statement of interest that describes your engagement and impact on teaching and learning including,
    1. preferred fellowship year (22-23 or 23-24)
    2. recent participation in professional development activities.
    3. experience incorporating equity-producing instructional strategies in your teaching practice.
    4. knowledge of and experience using equity-producing teaching frameworks and strategies.
    5. experience advancing inclusive teaching practices with colleagues and/or peers.
  2. 1-2 page proposal for an innovative project that advances inclusive student learning at Evergreen with an emphasis on increasing student access to learning environments that incorporate equity-producing and culturally-relevant teaching practices.
  3. Curriculum Vitae
  4. Letter of support from an academic dean, recent teaching partner, or student.

Potential projects:

Your application can include any project that advances inclusive student learning. Projects with high potential to increase student access to learning environments that incorporate equity-producing and culturally-relevant teaching practices will be given priority.

  • Developing workshops or online modules to support adoption of culturally-relevant teaching practices
  • Developing equity-minded teaching materials that faculty can integrate into their courses or programs
  • Develop workshops on faculty advising and mentorship in support of our Holistic Advising initiative
  • Assist the Associate Dean of Climate & Belonging Education in developing and implementing state-mandated, campus-wide DEI and anti-racism trainings
