Dear colleagues,
I hope you are enjoying these last sweet days of summer!
As we buckle in for another wild ride this fall quarter, I want to remind everyone about the importance of allocating some time for self-reflection around the equity-focused professional development work we are all doing together. Many of you attended powerful summer institutes on equity and inclusion topics this year, and many of you are doing your own research and/or connecting with colleagues at other institutions. Please take a few moments to record your work using the form below, so that we can be responsive to students, board of trustees members, and legislators who want to know how we are working to improve our teaching practices.
On a personal note, I want to acknowledge how difficult it is to pay attention to personal and collective growth, especially around equity, when we are still operating in a crisis situation. At the same time, I hope that taking a few moments to reflect on the professional development you are already doing will help you reconnect to the sense of purpose that drives all of you to work so hard on behalf of our students. Now, more than ever, our students need to feel like they belong at Evergreen.
