The Evergreen Jewish Studies Project presents: “Life is Beautiful” (1997, Italy)

Life is Beautiful is a comedy-drama film written and directed by Italian actor, comedian, screenwriter, and director Roberto Benigni, who also stars.

The film tells the story of an imaginative and comical Jewish man living through fascism and German occupation during World War II. He tries to maintain a normal life even after the Nazis capture him and his young son and send them to a concentration camp.
A multi-award-winner in the U.S. and around the world, Life is Beautiful was nominated for seven Oscars. The film will be followed by a discussion; refreshments will be served.
