RECAST | March 11, 2020 – Update on COVID-19 (coronavirus)

Dear Campus Community,

Today, March 11, Thurston County public health authorities confirmed a case of COVID-19 in the county, described as a resident in their 50s. Evergreen’s COVID-19 Planning and Response Team is committed to fostering community well-being while continuing the vital work of teaching and learning.

As the situation continues to evolve the college has made the following decisions:

Winter 2019 evaluations will be completed remotely next week, March 16 through 20, rather than in person.  Students should check in with their faculty about the best methods for conducting their conference. Faculty resources are available on the Academic Continuity webpage stewarded by the Learning and Teaching Commons. This decision offers a means to reduce the number of students coming to campus and provides more students time away from campus before the beginning of spring quarter. All other services will continue as regularly scheduled.

All faculty led study abroad programs are canceled for spring quarter in light of the World Health Organization’s announcement today. Students affected by this change should visit the Study Abroad webpage for further information. As we plan for spring quarter, please keep an eye out for new information as we work on the best ways to serve students and fulfill our mission, while focusing on health and well-being.

We are committed to keeping you apprised of the latest information available. We intend to communicate twice a week and in the meantime you can stay informed on the college’s COVID-19 information page which is updated regularly. Resources for residents, staff, and faculty have recently been added to the site.

If you have further questions, please contact Wendy Endress at endressw@evergreen.edu. Please take preventative measures, not only because you may feel at risk, and so we can lessen the risk for all.

Best regards,

COVID-19 Planning & Response Team
