Recast | Evergreen Awarded Grant for Homeless Students

Dear Community,

I am pleased to announce that Evergreen has been selected to take part in the Homeless College Students Pilot Program. The College will receive two years’ funding and will work with the Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) in developing and administering its program. 

This program was established by the Washington State Legislature in 2019 and seeks to address growing concern about food and housing insecurity among college students. This pilot focuses on helping students who are experiencing homelessness and students who were in the foster care system when they graduated high school. 

Each school taking part in the pilot receives funding and support to design, implement, and evaluate its own program. Evergreen’s proposal includes funding for a caseload manager at Olympia’s new Basic Needs Center and our Tacoma campus, as well as direct assistance to students experiencing homelessness. It draws on our strong community partnerships and student leadership to strengthen holistic support for student success. Evergreen joins EWU, WWU, and WSU, who are also taking part in the pilot.
