Dear campus and community members,
The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities, in conjunction with the
Title IX Office, is in the process of updating the Code of Student
Rights and Responsibilities (Code) in order
to adhere to the Title IX Regulations of 2020. In May of 2020, the Department
of Education released new Title IX Regulations, the first since the
implementation of Title IX in 1972. These regulations provided institutions
prescribed processes, definitions and roles that must be adopted. Evergreen
quickly worked to implement these regulations by the deadline of August 14,
2020, by the Emergency Rulemaking process. We are now working to make the Title
IX Regulations permanent in our Code; we are asking for community participation
in the process.
You are invited to attend a Public Hearing on the Code of Student Rights and
Responsibilities on Monday, March 15, 2021, starting at 3:00pm. For the
duration of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Governor’s ongoing restrictions,
public rule-making hearings will be conducted via video and phone conference
through Zoom.
The Public Hearing will offer a presentation on the Title IX Regulations and
provide time for individuals to make comments or ask questions related to the
proposed Code changes. No registration is required to participate. We ask that
participants keep their comments to 90 seconds (about 1 and a half minutes) to
allow all parties to participate if they would like. The Zoom link to the
Public Hearing is: https://evergreen.zoom.us/s/82839209584.
If you are not able to attend the Public Hearing and want to submit comments,
please email titleixcoordinator@evergreen.edu by Wednesday, March 17th at 5:00pm. All comments will be
reviewed and considered.
Attached to this email, please find the proposed Code of Student Rights and
Responsibilities for comments.
If you have any questions or need additional information about the Public
Hearing or the proposed Code edits, please reach out to either Connie Gardner,
Title IX Coordinator (titleixcoordinator@evergreen.edu) or Lori Johnson, Director for Student Rights and
Responsibilities (johnslo@evergreen.edu).
