RECAST | March 13, 2020 – Evergreen Update on COVID-19
Dear Campus Community,
This afternoon, March 13, Governor Inslee halted in-person instruction at colleges across the state, starting March 17. Meanwhile, Evergreen is taking the following immediate steps to slow local progress of the virus while continuing the vital work of teaching and learning:
- Spring quarter 2020 instruction will now begin on Thursday, April 2, 2020 and all classes will be held online at least through the first four weeks, to April 24. Over the next two weeks, the college will accelerate work in progress to prepare faculty and staff to shift instruction online.
- Winter 2019 evaluations will be completed remotely, March 16 – 21, rather than in person. Students and their faculty will work together to determine how they will be conducting their conference.
- Campus residents who are able, are encouraged to return home. We will maintain dining and residence hall service for students who need to remain on campus.
- Beginning Saturday, March 14, most campus services will be limited. We plan to provide key services to students, such as financial aid, academic advising and veterans support, while adapting operations to the reality of COVID-19. Remote delivery of services, deep cleaning and social distancing will be a high priority.
- The Campus Children’s Center will be closed March 16 through April 24.
- All in-person college-sponsored events are cancelled through April 24.
- All study abroad travel is canceled for spring quarter.
- College-related domestic travel is canceled through Aprll 24 except with the permission of a vice president.
