Faculty Notes | Kathleen Saul & John Perkins | 2022-2023

The Physics Teacher has published “Physics Teaching, Climate Change, and the Fossil Fuel-Dominated Energy System—Diagrams to Enhance Teaching Energy in Physics” by Kathleen Saul (MES) and John Perkins (Faulty Emeritus) (Vol. 61, 2023). The two argue that physics teachers need to incorporate in their curriculum figures like energy flow charts and the Perkins/Saul systems diagram of the Energy Regulatory and Industrial Complex (ERIC). This can help students better understand the role of energy in supporting modern society and how their physics training can contribute to dealing with challenges of climate change and dealing with the major energy problems of the future.
