Subject: Moving day
Dear Staff and Faculty,
Over the weekend, I started moving into the President’s office. I am grateful for the many kind messages of congratulation and offers of support that I have received since the board announced my appointment as interim president. It has been heartening to hear from so many determined people with so many ideas for how Evergreen can flourish in the years ahead.
As we draw together in preparation for fall quarter, we will need to focus these many ideas into a common vision for Evergreen’s future. Your efforts to serve students while managing the personal and professional challenges of the pandemic give me hope for Evergreen’s next chapter.
Today, moving offices seems like a good opportunity for new beginnings. So, after 16 months of mostly remote work, I am starting to work more regularly from campus. Evolving COVID rules make open office hours impractical, but I have resolved to spend the noon hour each Monday outdoors. If you would like to join me for a stroll or a conversation in the shade, please do. There are a few Mondays with scheduling conflicts, so please send me a note in advance to confirm, and we’ll work out the particulars.
Best wishes,
John
