Dear Colleagues,
We are writing to let you know that Amira Caluya, Trans & Queer Initiatives Coordinator for First Peoples Multicultural, Trans & Queer Support Services, has accepted a position as Project Coordinator at Story 2 Designs, a people-of-color-led, worker-owned design cooperative based in Seattle. While this is an exciting opportunity for Amira, they will be deeply missed. Amira’s last day will be July 31.
Since joining us in 2016 as Evergreen’s first Trans & Queer Center Coordinator, Amira has transformed the ways in which we support trans and queer students and students of color. They led dozens of trainings and workshops and planned events that created awareness and brought joy and healing to our community, including Multicultural and Lavender Graduations, New Year New Queer, Homocoming, and National Coming Out Day. Last year, Amira brought innovative new programming in the remote space with events like LGBTQ Health Relationships Groups, EverQueer – A Weekly Instagram Live Chat, and Springfest: A 3 Day Music, Art, and Poetry Celebration. Amira also supported our undocumented and mixed-documentation status students through work on the Latinx Standing Committee and the Undocumented Students Task Force.
On top of doing such amazing work during one of the most fraught and contentious periods in recent history, Amira never wavered in being a compassionate listener and brave champion for students at Evergreen. A true Aquarian, Amira was a fierce and tireless advocate for our community members, taking concrete actions every day to make Evergreen more welcoming for our trans and queer students. Their office was always open to anyone in need, and they gave space, support, and welcome, with Chicken Adobo and Pancit in abundance. Their passion for kittens, BTS, and claw crane arcade games brought so much joy to First Peoples.
Please join us in wishing Amira great good fortune in their new endeavors by contributing to their Kudoboard.
Salamat, Amira!
