Dear Evergreen Community,

Please join us in celebrating Michael Clifthorne, who is retiring from his position as Assistant Director of International Programs in early February.  In over 15 years of service at Evergreen, Michael has transformed Evergreen’s International Programs, expanding our consortium partners across the globe and developing exchange partnerships with universities in Daejeon, Korea, Roskilde, Denmark, and Xingwei, China.  With passion and professional knowledge, Michael has shown tireless dedication in supporting international students studying at Evergreen, as well as faculty and students planning for extended learning experiences abroad through programs and ILCs. Over the years, Michael has coordinated meaningful international and cross-cultural exchanges for thousands of students. Through in-depth studies in languages, culture, the environment, and politics, these students have gained experiential knowledge to address the challenges and connections of our increasingly globalized world.

During Michael’s tenure, hundreds of students have received Gilman Scholarships to support their overseas study, and Evergreen has become one of the highest ranking smaller schools in Peace Corps participation. Michael has built a truly robust International Program at Evergreen.  We invite you to join us in celebrating his many contributions to our community as he sets off on his next adventure!
