Commons Conversations are a space for faculty and staff to engage in conversations with each other around issues that matter to teaching at Evergreen. As is true for all seminars at Evergreen, these conversations are meant to explore a topic and learn from the many perspectives of our community, rather than arriving at a specific consensus.

Summary
In the most recent Commons Conversation, Building Successful Online Learning Communities, participants explored online tools and in-class activities, which the co-facilitators of the session have successfully used to build camaraderie among students and faculty.
Specifically, faculty provided a demo on the Slack Application for increasing student-to-student and student-to-faculty connectivity. Faculty also showed the use of Google Docs and Google Presentations for shared writing and critical analysis activities. And finally, the workshop offered a demo of GatherTown, which simulates buildings and classrooms where students, faculty, and staff can interact with one another through personal avatars.
