Sponsored Summer Institutes
Each year, the Learning and Teaching Commons contacts student support offices and the Academic Leadership Team to solicit Sponsored Summer Institutes. These institutes are typically funded by the proposing office, but the Provost holds responsibility for final allocation of funds from specific sources. The Sponsored Summer Institutes should have broad application at Evergreen. They are given priority scheduling, meaning they are put on the calendar on the dates preferred by the conveners before Community-initiated Summer Institutes are scheduled.
Community-initiated Summer Institutes
Community-initiated Summer Institute proposals are solicited from all faculty by the Learning and Teaching Commons in accordance with 17.2 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the United Faculty of Evergreen. These institutes are meant to be faculty-led and focused on professional development relevant to teaching, learning, and student success at Evergreen in alignment with the college mission, the Six Expectations, and the Five Foci.
Community-initiated Summer Institutes are facilitated by a lead convener (faculty) and optional additional co-conveners (faculty or staff). The lead convener is responsible for submitting the proposal and if the proposal is selected for the program, they are responsible for tracking attendance, submitting attendance reports and a final convener reflection report to the Learning and Teaching Commons staff. Faculty conveners are paid a daily stipend of $250 and faculty participants are paid a daily stipend of $125, up to a cap of $1,000 per individual.
NOTE: Summer Institutes are distinct from other kinds of summer work, such as Curriculum Planning Retreats, Special College Project Work, and Summer Appointments. You can compare definitions of these categories of summer work by reviewing their descriptions on the Learning and Teaching Commons blog.
