Each year, the Master of Environmental Studies Association hosts the annual Rachel Carson Forum in honor of Carson’s influential and important environmental research, writings, and activism. The Forum invites activists, scientists, writers, and speakers to present and engage with the community to promote environmental awareness and discussion.

Offering their perspectives after decades of work at the frontlines of socio-ecological advocacy, our speakers will highlight the implications of ecocide via militarism, extractivism, and imperialism in Palestine and Iraq, and what it takes to fight for a better future.

 

Gopal Dayaneni (he/him)

Co-founder of Movement Generation: Justice and Ecology Project; faculty at San Francisco State University, Race and Resistance Studies and Asian American Studies departments; and much more!

 

Salman Khairalla (he/him)

Known as Abu-Dijlah (The Father of the Tigris River); co-founder of Humat Dijlah (Tigris River Protectors) – Iraq; International coordinator for Save the Tigris Foundation – Amsterdam; and much more!

 

Anna Bachmann (she/her)

Director of Clean Water Program of Puget Soundkeeper; former Program Manager for the Waterkeepers Iraq Project, Key Biodiversity Areas Project, and the Darwin Conservation Project for Nature Iraq; Evergreen MES alumni; and much more!
