Dear colleagues,

I’m continuing to host Learning and Teaching Commons programming this quarter on the “salon” model: hospitable gatherings for free-flowing conversation around a theme. In winter, I moved these open houses to Wednesday as the governance calendar allows to better accommodate faculty teaching schedules. This week, I’m delighted that Leah Cover, Information Literacy & Assessment Librarian, and Liza Harrell-Edge, Library Archivist and Digital Scholarship Manager, are joining me from the Evergreen Library to share their expertise.

Salon doors are open 3-5pm on Wednesday 1/24 – come when you can and leave when you need! Find us at the Learning and Teaching Commons (Sem II E3120) with tea and snacks, excited to engage with your questions and ideas.

You can also join us via Zoom (the OWL will be set up): https://evergreen.zoom.us/j/87599354491

Leah and Liza can dive into topics such as these with you:

  • Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Reserves in the Library – troubleshoot your particular needs for teaching materials and save your students money!

  • Get a tour of the Evergreen Institutional Repository and learn how to submit work

  • Learn and share about Open Education at Evergreen – reducing barriers to entry and participation

  • Explore the concept of Open Pedagogy: “a place where theories about learning, teaching, technology, and social justice enter into a conversation with each other and inform the development of educational practices and structures.” [source

Yours openly,

Julie, Leah, and Liza
