Astounding Adaptability

The process of evolution requires that individual species develop characteristics that allow them to adapt to a changing environment. The morphological differences between organisms can illustrate their distinct roles in a diverse ecosystem. Over time, organisms develop qualities that help them better inhabit their niche. The terrestrial environment inhabited by humans is quickly transforming as a result of global climate change. The marine environment is being affected at an even more rapid rate. The current global climate crisis is largely anthropogenic; while it is necessary to find solutions to the problem we have already created, it is vital that we take preventative measures, in order to indefinitely postpone the destruction of our planet. By closely observing the ways in which marine organisms have adapted to environmental challenges, we can be better prepared for the progression of our own habitat in these trying times.
