Dear Evergreen Community,

As we strive to cultivate a campus culture that fosters a positive learning and working environment for students, faculty, and staff, consider the following results from our campus climate assessment:

  • 55.8% of our students with a disability* feel valued as an individual at Evergreen, yet 33.6% of students with a disability report working harder than others to be valued equally on our campus. This is higher than any other demographic group of students in our survey (p.16, table 22).
  • 49.2% of our staff with a disability experienced some form of discrimination in the 12 months prior to our survey. Moreover, our staff with a disability were likely to have experienced discrimination based on multiple intersecting identities like race, age, socioeconomic status, or sex (p.22, table 33).
  • Evergreen faculty with a disability are less likely to feel valued for teaching, service, and mentoring of students than their colleagues without a disability (p.25, table 38).

How may we make our campus more welcoming for our disability community? Explore these questions and others during a brown bag workshop and community conversation with Hannah Simonetti, Director of Campus Climate & Belonging and Tara Hardy, Member of the Faculty.
