This is goodnight and not goodbye, artwork by Marissa Marquardt
June 1st, 2026 through September 4th, 2026
Gallery Photoland is pleased to present the work of our 2025-2026 Photography Intern, Marissa Marquardt. As part of her internship, Marissa spent the academic year developing her work for this solo exhibition.
Artist Statement:
Loud crackling of burning wood, faint laughter echoing through trees, songs being sung loud and proud. This is goodnight and not goodbye is a photographic body of work exploring the cycles, memories and nostalgia of going to girl’s summer camps. Inspired by experiences and observations made throughout the summers staffing multiple summer camps in the Pacific Northwest, This is goodnight and not goodbye explores how and why people return to camp summer after summer.
This is goodnight and not goodbye uses digital and analog photography, Van Dyke brown printing, video, audio, and book binding. With a collection of staged and documentary style images, the project works to explore what stays with us once we leave summer camp behind. When old memories become replaced with the new, as we are pushed into an “adult world” how do we return to the worlds we know as kids? When we grow up, how do we remember?
