Tolmie State Park is a marine, day-use park situated on Nisqually Reach, a few miles from Olympia. The forested park features 1,800 feet of saltwater shoreline on the Puget Sound. The park also includes a saltwater marsh and diverse wildlife. Three miles of hiking trails within the park lead visitors through an estuary ecosystem, saltwater marsh and forested land.
The park was named after Dr. William Fraser Tolmie (1812-1886), who came to the pacific northwest from Scotland in 1833 in service of the Hudson Bay Company, serving at Fort McLoughlin and Fort Nisqually.
