Dear Evergreen Community,

Please join us in celebrating Jean Eberhardt, who recently retired from her position as Academic Advisor at the end of December.  Jean graduated from Evergreen in 1999 (with Mumia Abu Jamal as her graduation speaker!), and was hired as an Advisor in September 2000. In her 20 years of service, Jean enjoyed working closely with students.  She was often the only queer and Spanish-speaking advisor, providing extra support to our diverse students.  As a founding member of the Thurston-Santo Thomas Sister County Association, Jean facilitated rich exchange opportunities for Evergreen students and Nicaraguan delegations that contributed to our Latin American Studies programs. She also served as interim Study Abroad Coordinator on two occasions, and was active with the Latinx Standing Committee and Undocumented Student Task Force.  Jean was involved with Day of Absence/Day of Presence, supported legislative internships and undergrad students interested in MiT, and helped establish the Raquel Salinas Memorial Scholarship. She also served on the bargaining team for Student Support Services—the first bargaining of an exempt staff in higher education in Washington State (2012-13).

In her 20 years in Advising, Jean made a positive difference in the lives of hundreds of students, built strong relationships with faculty and community partners, and fully embodied Evergreen’s commitments to diversity and social justice. Her humor, care, and dedication to community-building will be missed, but you may find her in her garden or continuing her work in the local Strengthening Sanctuary Alliance and the Thurston-Santo Tomas Sister County Association. We invite you to join us in celebrating her many contributions to our community! Please see details and contribute to Jean’s Kudoboard below.
