Olympia Electricity

Before Disaster:

Olympia gets its electricity primarily from Puget Sound Energy (PSE). The majority of electricity generated by PSE comes from an equal amount of hydroelectric power and thermal power plants. The columbia river provides for the hydroelectric power with numerous power plants and dams running along it. The thermal power plants use natural gas and coal to generate electricity. The fortunate thing about PSE is that despite the massive amount of energy generated through hydro and thermal we also get electricity from wind, nuclear, and solar.

After Disaster:

The disaster did not eliminate all electricity but caused the major sources of electricity to either stall or disappear. Something has gone wrong with hydro power at the Columbia River for example. This cuts the energy supply by a third. Maybe we could find it again by venturing deep into the mist but until we do we wont know for sure what went wrong. Meanwhile the supply of non renewable resources that the thermal plants require to run have been cut off. Maybe something has happened with the coal making it non useable? Something like a malevolent intelligence or a cruel will? Regardless, with no hydro or thermal power our total generation is cut down by 60%. More work towards renewable energy will be a requirement not a possibility. There is plenty of space for wind turbines and even in the gloomy pacific northwest solar still shines through. Maybe an NPC could help us build some of these systems?
