Videos up
The videos I mentioned on Monday are on Youtube as of last night. (Sorry for the delay; I had technical difficulties with the computer I use to make and edit recordings.)
Here are the videos that are related to this week’s content:
Technical difficulties with posting Energy Project ideas
(4pm, Fri. Jan. 12) Should be fixed. Please try again if you had difficulty before.
(2:30pm, Fri. Jan. 12) Some students have reported that they can’t access the forum to post their ideas for the Energy Project. Others continue to be able to post. Do your best to meet the deadline, but we know that there is a problem for some of you. I’ve contacted Academic Computing, and they are working on it. I’ll update this post as I learn more.
Minor change to Week 12 schedule
Please note that we’ve made a small change to the Week 12 schedule: the Physics Quiz will be administered during Tuesday’s Physics Lab from 1 – 1:30, and the Math Quiz will be Wednesday from 9 – 9:30.
Week 12 Reading
- Chemistry: McMurray & Fay 9.1 – 9.3, 9.6
- Math: Stewart 3.8
- Math Reading Responses due via WebAssign 3pm Sun. Jan 14
- Physics: Wolfson 8.1 – 8.5
- Physics Reading Response due via MasteringPhysics 6pm Sun. Jan. 14
- Please note that we’ve made a small change to the Week 12 schedule: the Physics Quiz will be administered during Tuesday’s Physics Lab from 1 – 1:30, and the Math Quiz will be Wednesday from 9 – 9:30.
Chemistry lab groups for Winter 2017
Lab groups for chemistry experiments will be assigned this quarter. See groups below.
Chemistry: Prepping for Colas lab week 2
The pre-lab for part 2 of the Analysis of Colas lab (1/16) asks you to create a detailed scheme for creating a very precise calibration curve. In order to create the best calibration curve you can, please:
- Graph your calibration curve from week 1, do a linear fit and get an R squared value. Remember that a perfect line has R squared = 1. If your value is below 0.9 (or even if it’s above), consider how to improve it…
- Talk to people from at least two other groups about how they created their calibration curves and what their R squared value was. Think about whether incorporating some of their methods might improve the precision of your own.
Chem Lab Experiment #7
I am still working on edits to the Winter Quarter Lab Manual. Until I get it posted later this week, you can use this Experiment 7 protocol to plan for Tuesday morning’s chemistry lab.
Math Problem Set #9 for Week 11
- Complete All Problems in your Math Problem Set Notebook. Bold underline problems also due via WebAssign by 9pm on Fri. Jan. 12, 2018.
- Please find problem set assignment at the Math page, also linked in the main navigation bar.
Welcome to Winter Quarter!
Welcome to Winter Quarter! We are excited to see you again, continue our work together, and support you in meeting your goals.
