The Algae of the Evergreen Beach

The Algae of the Evergreen Beach features herbarium specimens of seaweeds collected along the shoreline and pressed by the students in the two-quarter program, The Nature and Culture of Natural History.The program focused in fall 2017 and winter 2018 on the historically complex and often problematic binary of nature and culture so common in colonial botany. The program was taught by botanist Frederica Bowcutt and historian of science Tamara Caulkins. Ancestry is Not a Crime: A Tribute to Gordon Hirabayashi

Located on the 2nd floor of the Daniel J. Evans Library, this display features the story of Japanese-American activist Gordon Hirabayashi and his resistance to the Japanese internment camps during World War II. Gordon Hirabayashi was born in Seattle, Washington and was a student at the University of Washington. The installation is a traveling exhibition from Seattle University.Read More →

Carla Stehr’s Quilts & Molecules

Now Showing in the Evergreen Library The Lib+ is honored to present Carla Stehr’s Quilts and Molecule Photographs. Carla Stehr is a fiber artist influenced by a scientific career as a Marine Biologist. As a scientist, she studied cells and tissues of marine organisms and photographed the complexity and beauty of aquatic life with a scanning electron microscope.
