  • Problem 9.10 offers the opportunity to study the derivation of eq. (9.34). Start from eq. (9.31), take advantage of eq. (9.30), and make sure you understand the steps leading up to eq. (9.34).
  • An extension on Problem 9.16 (as described in class): Assume the distance from the center of the rod out to its edge is L. Assume that at t = 0, x = 0 (the bead is at the pivot point) and v = v0. Determine the amount of time it takes the bead to reach the end of the rod from its starting point.
EM: 8.1-8.2 (skim the quantitative discussion of the actual Maxwell stress tensor, but read the conceptual description; skip Example 8.2) EM Lab II Report due by noon Fri. Apr. 26 to folder in Cave
