Mentoring Day, Academic Fair, Academic Statement

  • The spring All-Campus Mentoring Day is Wed. May 13 from 1:30 – 4:00 in the Library. There are a number of potentially relevant sessions: on studying science at Evergreen, on preparing for graduate school in science, on career pathways in education, on contracts and internships, on academic statement visioning and writing, on environmental studies and sustainability, on study abroad, etc. You’ll only be able to go to 2, so choose wisely.
  • This is followed up by the spring Academic Fair, from 4:00 – 6:00 in the CRC gym. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet faculty for your preferred fall (or summer) programs and future programs or potential contract sponsors. Many of you know what you are planning to do in fall, so you can make contact with those faculty. Some of you are still figuring it out, and this is a good chance to get some answers to some of your smart questions.
  • Your Academic Statement is due this Thursday May 14. Turn in your draft! Otherwise, a registration hold will prevent you from registering for summer or fall programs.

MasteringPhysics Ch. 16 questions

As discussed in Problem Session today, make sure you keep all digits for intermediate calculations and only round at the end. This also means don’t just use the values reported in intermediate steps (e.g. MP reports k = 29.6 but it is really 29.56932; use 29.56932).

MasteringPhysics problem for 16.34, Part H broken

Part H of MasteringPhysics 16.34 is broken beyond repair. The rest of the problem is fine, but the answer to Part H should be c = the given wave speed. But that is not what is coded into the system. For some reason, I don’t have the proper edit capacity to fix it. So just hit Give Up just for Part H of 16.34, and I’ll credit everyone who attempted that part of the problem for that part of the question.
