Inspired by both early Hitchcock and the horror films of the Cold War era, The Red Scare critically examines eroticized violence against women in the horror genre and the scapegoating of femininity. In this piece, the irrationality of anti-Communist hysteria is likened to mainstream male fears of menstruation. The film also explores the creation of the female monster, it asks why certain women are marginalized, and the role of gender identity in this process. This was a final project in Mediaworks 2007-08 (Faculty Ruth Hayes and Beatriz Flores Gutierrez).
