The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a Landscape Project Lead (TPS3) to provide expertise and services for environmental and construction restoration to ensure all impacts comply with environmental permit obligations and WSDOT policies. This position supports WSDOT’s strategic plan through wise asset management of roadsides, delivering right-sized projects, supporting multi-modal transportation options, improving environmental conditions, and creating livable communities that meet and exceed public expectations.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within these roles, the Landscape Project Lead will:

  • Perform QA/QC reviews for landscape architectural design, focusing on adaptive management and strategies in maintenance including access, safety, costs, and scheduling.
  • Provide landscape architecture functional analysis, contract plans, specifications, and estimates using MicroStation and other supporting computer software. 
  • Evaluate, guide, and oversee work by consultants, design-build contractors, citizens, civic organizations, and other governmental agencies for adherence to contracts and WSDOT policies. 
  • Review landscape construction plans, specifications, estimates, and answer questions regarding tree replacement and the Roadside Policy Manual. 
  • Provide field analysis and landscape architecture guidance to construction offices. 
  • Analyze adaptive management solutions and long-term management strategies for constructed sites. 
  • Schedule, track and direct the work of maintenance crews in implementation efforts for the plant establishment phase of the project.
  • Lead and supervise a team of landscape designers to meet assigned project deadlines. 
  • Prepare performance management plans and individual development plans.

Qualifications
To be considered for these opportunities, the following are required:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in the study of Landscape Architecture
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in Landscape Architecture.
  • Two (2) years of experience producing drafting products in AutoCAD or MicroStation.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience working collaboratively and managing staff. 
  • Sufficient knowledge and skill with math to calculate areas of irregular shapes, volumes, and quantities of materials, determine labor requirements and costs, and track budgets.
  • A high-level of awareness and attention to safety.
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a state vehicle to and from construction sites.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • ISA Certified Arborist
  • Certified in Site Erosion and Sediment Control 
  • Experience in construction contract administration
  • Experience with native plant material and environmental restoration

  • The salary listed includes the legislative approved 5% salary premium for positions in King County.
