Position Summary
The Education and Outreach Assistant’s primary purpose is to assist Program Leads, the Director and the Board of Supervisors in the development and implementation of education and outreach initiatives that promote the role, mission, and goals of the District and its programs. The position will assist with planning, organizing, and coordinating educational lessons for youth, landowners, and the general public and other education programs and projects; planning, organizing, and coordinating public events; recruiting and managing volunteers; developing effective communication and marketing materials; and assisting other staff in carrying out miscellaneous grant or contract-related tasks as part of the District’s annual plan of work. The successful candidate will be familiar with local conservation issues, resource concerns, and conservation needs, increasing community awareness of local natural resource conservation needs, to help encourage a conservation ethic within the community.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences or Studies, Education, Marketing, Communications or a related field; OR a technical degree (AS/AA) and 1-year related experience. Qualifying experience may substitute year-for-year for the education requirement.
Knowledge and experience with natural resource education and outreach.
Good understanding of local conservation issues, resource concerns, and conservation needs within Palouse Conservation District boundaries.
Experience designing and developing print and/or online outreach material.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
One (1) year experience administering educational programming in formal or informal settings with youth and/or adults.
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
Experience with Smartsheet.
Professional knowledge of policies and practices of Conservation Districts.
Highly motivated and organized. -
