Job Description

  • PNNL is seeking an Earth Scientist with expertise in global data syntheses, and model-guided experimental design. Domain expertise in wetlands, belowground ecosystems, biogeochemistry, or rhizosphere processes is required.

  • Expertise or experience in other scientific domains such as coastal science, ecology, biology, geology, hydrology, or atmospheric sciences would be desireable.

  • Familiarity with machine learning and advanced data analyses is desired, but not required.

  • A strong record of publications and leadership in one of the primary domains is required

Discipline, principal job duties/expectations, and qualitative and quantitative measures of performance that exceed the Functional Descriptor:

  • The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team focused on data syntheses, model improvements, field observations, and experiments designed to improve our predictive understanding of ecosystem processes (C and nutrient transport and transformations) across a range of scales.

  • Leading tasks, teams, and mentoring other staff will be an important part of this position, as will be the ability to contribute to a larger multidisciplinary team

  • Presenting research in peer-reviewed publications and at scientifically relevant conferences is expected.

Minimum Qualifications

BS/BA with 2 years of experience MS/MA with 0-2 years of experience PhD with 0 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • A PhD in biology, ecology, soil science, or other environmentally-relevant science is preferred

  • Post-doctoral experience is preferred
