Oregon State University (Extension Communications)

This is a full-time (1.0), 12-month professional faculty position for Oregon State University’s (OSU) Extension Communications unit, reporting to the Extension Communications Director.

The Communications Specialist’s primary role is to produce public-facing content that showcases the information, expertise and impact of the OSU Extension Service and help implement strategies to engage audiences with that content. The person in this position contributes writing, editing, publishing, project coordination and other communication expertise to educational, informational and promotional content and strategies in a variety of media, languages (primarily English and Spanish) and delivery platforms with focus on a “digital first” approach. This position contributes to efforts to create content that is linguistically and culturally relevant to historically marginalized audiences.

The Communications Specialist collaborates with publishing, marketing, public affairs, web and multimedia colleagues within and beyond the unit. Work is done in collaboration with OSU Extension’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion unit, OSU Extension employees and university communications colleagues.

The Extension Communications unit supports the strategic communication needs of the Division of Extension and Engagement and the statewide OSU Extension Service. The team collaborates with division leadership and colleagues to create educational, engaging and brand-aligned communications. This includes educational publishing, news and media relations, issues and impact communications, marketing and branding, visual design and multimedia, and web and content strategy efforts. The team also offers advice, consultation and training for OSU Extension employees in these areas. In addition, the team provides collaborative leadership for innovative and effective use of educational and communication technologies that support access to and engagement with OSU Extension.
