Location: Based out of Clackamas, Oregon. Work to be conducted in the Columbia and Snake Rivers and includes weekly travel.

Job Description: What you will do: Employees in these positions will be involved with collecting and processing biological data for an ongoing evaluation of the Northern Pikeminnow Management Program (NPMP). The NPMP was first implemented in 1991 to reduce predation on out-migrating juvenile salmon and steelhead by Northern Pikeminnow. ODFW oversees tagging of Northern Pikeminnow that provide for the estimation of sport-reward fishery exploitation rates, and collects other information to assess the response of the broader predator community to Northern Pikeminnow removals. Primary duties can include: Boat operation and boat electrofishing, tagging fish (PIT and Floy), collecting biological samples (e.g., stomach contents), and recording accurate data in selected areas throughout the lower Columbia and Snake rivers. Other duties may include laboratory work (e.g., preparation/analysis of fish stomach contents) and office work (e.g., data entry and verification).
These positions require regular outdoor work, at night, often in rough water, or adverse weather conditions. All positions are based out of Clackamas, with regular overnight travel of up to four nights per week. However, there is also the possibility of one or more extended trip(s) of up to 10 days, including some weekend work.
These positions require a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, and does not exceed 40 hours in a workweek. Work exceeding 40 hours per week requires prior approval by the supervisor.
Employees travel between Clackamas and weekly work locations in government vehicles, and stay in government paid hotel rooms. Per diem is paid to reimburse employees for lodging and meal expenses where necessary. No per diem is paid when working in the Clackamas/Portland metro area. Housing is NOT provided other than hotels when traveling outside this area. Job duties may be physically demanding and require lifting up to 40 pounds of fish and equipment.

Requirements/Requested Skills: Minimum qualifications are not established for these positions; however we are seeking applicants with the following related skills and experience: ability to identify freshwater and estuarine fish species, handle live fish, and accurately record field data and experience operating and towing boats up to 22 feet in length, electrofishing, river navigation, using computer tablets and GPS units. Candidates must be able to work/interact effectively as part of a team, with the public, and with personnel from other agencies. Those who possess or are in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological/ecological sciences will be given preference for interviews.
These positions require a Boater Education Card obtained through the Oregon State Marine Board. There are some exceptions to this (e.g., Coast Guard Boat Operator License or commercial fishing license). For further information, access the Web site at www.boatoregon.com. Criminal Records/DMV Check
Applicants are subject to both a criminal history and motor vehicles check.
