The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking four Highway Maintenance Workers (HMW2) to join the Incident Response Team in Seattle, WA. This position is critical in reducing congestion by removing incidents as quickly and safely as possible to restore the state highway transportation system to its maximum operational capacity. Partnered with Washington State Patrol (WSP) and other emergency responders, these team members will quickly relocate and assist stranded motorists. • Operate a class A tow truck equipped with a push bumper, wheel lift, dollies, and a sling system, within the greater Seattle/Everett metropolitan area, Express Lanes & Floating Bridges. This includes pushing, pulling, and/or towing disables vehicles to “safe locations” and then providing further assistance (change a flat, jump start, provide gas, ensure necessary tow services are forthcoming, etc.).
  • Respond to and coordinate with WSP, Incident Command System (ICS), and emergency responders.
  • Operate two radio systems for communications (WSP high band and WSDOT 700/800 MHz).
  • Provide traffic control.
  • Provide incident and traffic condition information to the Traffic Management Center.
  • Utilize the standard statewide incident data tracking.
  • Identify environmental cleanup needs, arrange for immediate cleanup by qualified personnel, and/or control and remove incidental amounts of spilled motor vehicle fluids.
