Rita Sevcik served as Administrative Assistant to the first six Evergreen presidents. In this 1984 interview she discusses her hiring as one of the first staff members as well as her perceptions of the nature of the job and the changes over time, as the position became more and more an assistant to the President. She reflects on the ways that hospitality and liaison have become important parts of the role, as well as her relationships with other staff members. She discusses the leadership styles of presidents McCann, Evans, acting president Schwartz, and president Olander and founding Trustee Herb Hadley.
