Wetland Ecologist

Perteet, a civil engineering, planning and construction management consulting firm is searching for a Wetland Ecologist.

Projects involve wetland and stream assessments and mitigation primarily for public projects in Western Washington and sometimes in Eastern Washington.

Responsibilities include:

  • Being a knowledgeable resource for multidisciplinary design teams with a civil engineering and capital project focus.
  • Scoping, conducting and delivering wetland delineations, stream assessments, and habitat impact assessments associated with public infrastructure projects and industrial land development
  • Participating in client outreach and project development activities, including project identification and tracking, proposal support and client relations
  • Managing legacy wetland and stream related monitoring projects including client contacts, budgets, expenses, and supplemental contract needs.
  • Writing technical reports as primary scientific author and preparing wetland and stream related permit documentation to industry standards.
  • Working with in-house engineers, planners, landscape architects, and multidisciplinary staff to prepare project deliverables related to natural systems.
  • Coordinating and collaborating with US Army Corps of Engineers, Department of Ecology, Fish and Wildlife agencies, Department of Natural Resources, and city/county local agencies.

Minimum Qualifications include:

  • PWS certification or demonstrated ability to obtain certification in the first 12 months of employment.
  • Successful public agency project experience in Washington State.
  • Advanced degree in biology, environmental science, natural resources management, or closely related field to be considered a “biologist” by training and expertise.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in wetland/stream environmental consulting Completion of Department of Ecology trainings for wetland rating assessments and demonstrated knowledge of wetland and stream ecosystems in Washington State and in the Puget Sound lowlands.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and manage, with limited supervision, wetland determinations/delineations, stream assessments, wetland ratings, functional assessments, fish and wildlife habitat assessments, biological evaluations/assessments, and mitigation planning and design.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, SharePoint, GPS devices, and experience using GIS applications
  • Demonstrated success in communications, organizational skills, and writing skills appropriate for environmental consulting.
