Salary
Hiring range for position is $59,292 – $68,186/year. Through longevity position tops out at $77,079/year. At 80% appointment, the hiring range is $45,833 – $54,548/year. Through longevity position tops out at $61,663.

About the Position
The purpose of this position is to perform project management, convening, and administrative tasks necessary to facilitate implementation of Western Washington University’s Sustainability Action Plan. This includes working closely with the President’s Sustainability Council, collecting and managing sustainability data across the institution, developing progress reports, and generating innovative collaborations for positive change.

  • This is a permanent, part-time position, working 32 hours per week (80% FTE).

Position Duties and Responsibilities
Sustainability Action Plan Implementation Coordination (70%)

  • Serve as project manager and co-facilitator for the President’s Sustainability Council (PSC).
  • Collaborate with various campus constituents to ensure the campus is moving strategically towards its various sustainability and climate goals.
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings between diverse groups of stakeholders to achieve campus sustainability goals.
  • Research sustainability activities taken by other institutions, municipalities, and businesses and apply this research to the execution of campus sustainability goals.
  • Determine technical, cultural, and financial feasibility of campus sustainability goals.
  • Report on progress of the SAP at meetings of the President’s Sustainability Council (PSC).

Data Collection and Annual Reporting (25%)

  • Develop and distribute survey and assessment tools that evaluate campus awareness and implementation of sustainability knowledge, policies, practices, and behaviors.
  • Produce annual Sustainability Report for Board of Trustees on behalf of the President’s Sustainability Council.
  • Track sustainability trends at Western and peer campuses.
  • Aggregate data required for AASHE STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System) submission and Western system reports, and make information publicly available.
  • Develop and improve strategies for obtaining data not currently tracked.

Other duties as assigned, and time allows, based on interest and skillset of individual (5%)
This could include, but is not limited to, teaching, supporting other initiatives within the institute, community-engaged work, and/or working with student-focused programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution or bachelor’s degree with equivalent educational and job experience
    • 3-5 years of experience in community engagement or educational program development.
  • Demonstrated experience building partnerships
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Demonstrated writing and report production experience
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and develop consensus among a diverse constituency
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborative working environments and projects
  • Working knowledge of sustainability principles and practices
  • Demonstrated experience in public speaking and the use of current presentation media

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with public outreach and input processes.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a sustainability-related field.
