About Tahoma Audubon: Tahoma Audubon Society is a grassroots conservation and environmental education organization founded in 1969 and based in University Place, Washington. It is an independent chapter of National Audubon Society, partner with Audubon Washington, and serves Pierce County. Tahoma Audubon operates the Adriana Hess Audubon Center (where the office is located) in a public park in University Place.

Our mission is to connect people to birds, other wildlife, and their habitats through conservation, education, and recreation.

We partner with the Tacoma Nature Center, Puyallup Watershed Initiative, Green Cities Partnerships in Tacoma and Puyallup, Tacoma Housing Authority, and numerous other organizations across Pierce County. We have an annual operating budget of approximately $200,000 per year and more than 500 active members. Current staff include two full-time employees and usually more than 1,800 volunteer hours per year. Tahoma Audubon mobilizes members, volunteers, and the broader community to implement its conservation policy and advocacy priorities. We conduct experiential learning programs throughout Pierce County, engaging adults, seniors, and families to foster life-long learning and nature appreciation. In 2021 we are launching our Science Committee to better implement community science efforts across our membership.
