State Parks is governed by a board of seven volunteer citizens appointed by the Governor. Commission members serve staggered six-year terms, setting public policy and guiding the agency. The Washington state park system includes more than 100 developed parks, recreation programs, trails, boating safety and winter recreation.

Washington State Parks employs more than 500 permanent staff and more than 350 seasonal and temporary staff throughout the state. The headquarters office is located in Tumwater, and region offices are located in Burlington, East Wenatchee and Tumwater.

This recruitment will be used to fill three (3), permanent- seasonal, Park Aide position for Brooks Memorial, Maryhill and Columbia Hills State Parks, located in Klickitat County, WA.

The season dates for these positions are:

  • Brooks Memorial (Klickitat County) – March 1st (3/1) through October 31st (10/31), yearly
  • Maryhill (Klickitat County) – April 1st (4/1) through October 31st (10/31), yearly
  • Columbia Hills (Klickitat County) – April 1st (4/1) through October 31st (10/31), yearly
Duties

Under the direct supervision of a Park Ranger 2, these positions will be required to learn and apply skills needed to carry out the daily operation, maintenance and administration of Brooks Memorial State Park and it’s satellite parks.  This position will be scheduled to work either day, evening, weekend and/or holidays.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain park facilities through light routine maintenance and janitorial services.
  • Perform grounds maintenance work, such as cutting grass, weeding flower beds, pruning shrubs, raking leaves, and picking up litter.
  • Maintain park lawns using a mower, weed eater, trimmer, and various maintenance tools.
  • Provide park information to visitors and answer phones.
  • Register campers, collect, sort and count revenue; prepare bank transmittals and deposits.
  • Perform daily garbage collection and litter control.
  • Clean restrooms, vault toilets and lodge using appropriate chemical cleaners.
  • Follows posted cleaning procedures to clean toilets, urinals, sinks, walls, shower stalls, floors, etc.
  • Restocks paper supplies.
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to lift 30-40 pounds.
  • Valid unrestricted (except for corrective lenses) driver’s license – If your DL is out of state (other than WA State), you will be required to show proof of a valid and current unrestricted driver’s license at the time of the interview.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • First Aid/CPR certified.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to learn and interpret park rules, area information, and local history and educate park visitors.
  • Ability to lead and instruct others and follow direction.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and maintain organization, communication, and a reasonable completion time and quality.
  • Ability to operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and small equipment.
  • Ability to perform general maintenance to park buildings and facilities.
  • Ability to perform janitorial services, including the use of chemicals.
  • Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
  • Ability to learn about equipment servicing, diagnosing, and maintenance.

UNIFORM INFORMATION:
All Park Aides are required to wear a uniform.  A complete and properly worn uniform helps establish the professional identity of a Park Aide and promotes respect as a Washington State Parks employee.  All seasonal Park Aides will receive 4 shirts the first year (2 shirts each year afterwards), 1 baseball cap, 1 jacket each 5 years, a clothing stipend of $150.00 per calendar year, and a boot stipend of $150 every 2 years.  Stipends are intended to offset the cost of clothing worn in the workplace such as pants, boots, raingear, etc.
