This is a full time, Temporary position through September 1, 2021.

We will also consider a Job Rotation for current, regular status employees of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife in good standing in a permanent or limited duration position (if you are a current temporary or seasonal employee you can apply and be considered for a temporary appointment) that is expected to continue through at least September 1, 2021. Please note: for a job rotation, you do not have to meet the minimum qualifications for a Natural Resource Specialist 2 level, you can gain experience as a developmental. What you will do:

• Provide technical assistance to the Marine Resource Program (MRP) manager (Council co-chair) and the Oregon State University Council co-chair, with meetings and actions of the Oregon Ocean Acidification and Hypoxia Coordination (OAH) Council and related working groups and activities. Develop documents such as meeting schedules, agendas, technical materials and work plans for the OAH Council and members; schedule and coordinate meeting logistics and documentation; correspond and communicate with Council members; work with ODFW media relations staff to develop media releases on OAH Council activities.

• Write environmental and policy reports on topics as assigned by MRP Manager, in coordination with Council co-chair: Consult with federal, tribal, state, and local agencies and scientists on the laws, rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines related to OAH; write, review, and edit scientifically based reports; review, and edit scientific white papers synthesizing information OAH. Develop and provide OAH informational and outreach material, which include brochures, white papers, website content etc. Provide technical assistance with interpretation and incorporation of regional, national, international recommendations on OAH, as appropriate.

• Assist in analyzing, compiling and promoting Oregon’s scientific information related to OAH impacts, OAH adaptation, OAH mitigation, as well as nearshore ecosystem health; communicate results in a variety of venues (state, regional, national, and international forums). Analyze data and technical documents and write reviews, summaries, and draft recommendations. Support ODFW’s maintenance of the regional inventory of OAH monitoring, gaps analysis, and strategic improvement.

Working Conditions
• The majority of time is spent in working on a computer drafting documents, conducting document reviews and participating in conference calls/virtual meetings.

• This position may use a SPOTS Visa card to make work related purchases.

• Requires a flexible work schedule that varies in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times vary on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day. This includes working at all hours and workdays in excess of eight hours.

Criminal Records/DMV Check
Applicants are subject to both a criminal history and motor vehicles check. Out-of-state finalists will be required to present a current certified driving record for review to be considered for the position. Be prepared to obtain as soon as possible. You are expected to provide the out-of-state certified driving record before an offer can be made unless extenuating circumstances exist. We are seeking applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and have the following skills and experience:

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of biological/ecological/oceanographic experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or marine program that included one year of at least two of the following: gathering data, analyzing data, or preparing reports, and a Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, Marine Biology, Marine Ecology, Biological Oceanography, Marine Fisheries Management/Science, or a closely-related Bachelor’s degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological/oceanographic coursework; or three additional years of  biological/ecological/oceanographic experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or marine program;

OR One year of biological/ecological/oceanographic experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or marine program that included at least two of the following: gathering data, analyzing data, or preparing reports, and a Master’s degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, Marine Biology, Marine Ecology, Biological Oceanography, Marine Fisheries Management/Science, or a closely-related Master’s degree in biological/ecological/oceanographic sciences;

OR A Doctorate degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, Marine Biology, Marine Ecology, Biological Oceanography, Marine Fisheries Management/Science, or a closely related Doctorate degree in biological/ecological sciences.

Applicants who have obtained a Master’s degree or Doctorate that included work experience from an internship, work/study, thesis, or similar program may list this experience in their application to receive credit for the work experience. The Master’s degree/Doctorate and applicable work experience will be considered separately and both the education and applicable experience may count toward minimum qualifications.
