Salary- $2,864.00 – $3,701.00 Monthly

Our Scientific Technician 2, 

Assists with the Mannser Creek Weir Trap. Tasks include: 

  • Assists with the installation/removal, and maintenance of the Mannser Creek fence weir.
  • Checks traps as assigned by supervisor, enumerating catch, marking coho smolts and subsample catch for fork length. The employee is responsible for maintaining trap integrity during high flow and making repairs if damage occurs due to weather, flows, debris, or vandalism.
  • At the end of season, employee assists with trap removal and storage.
  • Daily trap checks information (date, time, catch by species, individual fork lengths and notes) will be recorded on trap check forms and entered into project data base.
  • Organizes and maintain all sampling equipment and trap check forms.

Conducts Tagging at Baker Dam. Tasks include: 

  • Coordinates the coded wire tagging of wild coho smolts captured in the Puget Sound Energy (PSE) Baker Lake fish trap by working cooperatively with PSE staff arranging a daily sampling schedule.
  • Enumerates and tags smolts, recording data on provided tagging forms and entering into project database.

Assists with other monitoring sites as needed. Tasks include: 

  • Checks fish traps, enumerating and sampling catch.


  • Work Setting, including hazards:   
    1. Trapping operations are dependent on fish migration and environmental conditions. Traps are operated seven (7) days per week throughout the season, requiring work on weekends and holidays.
    2. During peak migration periods or periods of high flow/heavy debris, long hours will be required.
    3. Work is conducted primarily outdoors, with exposure to rain, wind, and cold conditions.
  • Schedule:   
    1. Work is forty (40) hours per week, seven (7) days per week, including holidays and occasional night work.
  • Travel Requirements: 
    1. Travel throughout Skagit Basin to different trap sites, occasional travel to Olympia.
  • Tools and Equipment: 
    1. Coded Wire Tag machine, scalpel, nets, rake, and shovel.
  • Customer Interactions:
    1. Interacts with the general public, landowners, and employees from other organizations.
