Summary

The King County GIS Center is seeking an experienced GIS Specialist – Journey. The GIS Specialist – Journey will perform ongoing maintenance on complex, highly detailed transportation-related network, infrastructure, facilities, planning, and operations GIS data, including all updates and revisions to these data. Perform data development and ongoing maintenance for GIS data related to urban and regional planning, real property, natural resource planning and management, and other King County functions and services, including all updates and revisions to these data. Complete corrections to resolve all reported errors, omissions, and discrepancies in these data. Maintain the suite of custom editing tools which are used to perform these data maintenance tasks. Design and perform detailed spatial research and analysis, using appropriate and relevant GIS data and digital imagery, to meet the management, planning, and operational needs of all County agencies. Design and develop web applications, maps, tables, and other products to report research and analysis findings to decision makers and make program information available to the public. Train and mentor other staff on data maintenance procedures, protocols, and tools, and serve as team leader for staff who perform this work on an ongoing basis. Develop and nurture effective working relationships with client agency managers and program staff.

Work Schedule
The normal workweek for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Alternative work schedules may be considered. This position is not eligible for overtime pay.

TEMPORARY TELECOMMUTING REQUIREMENT
The work associated with this position will be performed remotely, at least through July 5, 2021 in compliance with King County’s telecommuting mandate. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.  Employees must reside in WA state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.  There will be situations where the employee is required to report to a County worksite.  Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required by the department in alignment with the Public Health Directive from the Seattle & King County Public Health Officer.

Job Duties

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Subject Matter Skills

  • Three years of applied professional experience in the application of current and emerging GIS technologies
  • Extensive detailed knowledge and familiarity with highly complex transportation network, infrastructure, facilities, planning, and operations GIS data
  • Knowledge and experience with other business-specific thematic GIS data
  • Advanced skills in spatial and tabular data maintenance procedures, protocols, and tools
  • Advanced skills in application of current GIS technologies for research and spatial analysis
  • Knowledge and familiarity with large-scale public transit system planning and operations.

Required Software Skills

  • Three years of applied professional experience with ArcGIS 10.3 or above
  • Applied professional experience with Spatial Analyst, Network Analyst, Geostatistical Analyst, Python, Model Builder, and ArcSDE
  • Advanced knowledge and skills with current-state ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Pro.

  • Three years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the application and use of GIS technology.

Desirable Qualifications

  • GISP certification is desirable.
