These are seasonal full-time positions located in The Dalles.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

You will perform a wide variety of manual tasks in the areas of fuels reduction and timber stand improvements through thinning, piling and burning of fuels.  You are supervised by the Wildland Fire Supervisor on The Dalles Unit and you will work under the lead worker as a member of a 5 person crew.  You will perform fire suppression duties as needed in both initial attack and extended attack.  You will also complete routine building and ground maintenance. The position requires that you be able to acquire FFT2 or higher ICS fire qualification(s) within the first year of employment and be able to perform firefighting duties as needed.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR

  • Experience operating and maintaining a chainsaw.

  • Experience with forest thinning, fuel reduction, timber harvest, or other related jobs.

  • Experience with reading and interpreting maps.

  • Knowledge and experience working with timber harvest unit layout and timber marking with the use of tools such as maps, photos, GPS and clinometer.

  • Qualified as Firefighter (FFT2).

  • Works collaboratively as a member of a team.

  • Experience with the use of hand tools and operation of motorized equipment.

  • Ability to work independently under general supervision.

  • Maintains an adequate level of fitness to perform assigned duties.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of service, workforce diversity, equity and inclusion, team environment, and strong internal communication and alignment.

  • Eighteen months of experience working in the field of (Forestry); OR Associate Degree in Forestry, Forest Engineering, Forest Recreation, Fire Protection or a related natural resource field of study; OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
