Position Details:
Summary of Duties:
This position provides oversight and leadership, including volunteer management, for Extension work in the 4-H Youth Development Program of Mason County. This position is also responsible for community outreach efforts and efforts serving youth outside of the 4-H club system. This oversight includes the development and implementation of programs and activities within the policies and procedures of WSU Extension, and specifically, 4-H programming under the direction of the 4-H Youth Development Faculty and the State 4-H Associate Director.
Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; demonstrated work experience using these programs.

While using a private vehicle for official business, the successful candidate must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting the requirements described in RCW 46.30.020 and RCW 46.29.090).

Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.

Ability to work flexible work hours that include frequent evenings and weekends.

Ability to work year around in a variety of outdoor weather conditions.

Competency in using electronic communication methods and equipment for extension education and daily work activities.

Must successfully pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience in volunteer management (i.e. recruitment, placement, education and recognition) and volunteerism.

Knowledge of, and/or experience with, 4-H youth development programs. Experience and ability to work as a team member with staff and volunteers.

Strong demonstrated written skills requiring limited editing and supervision in preparing reports, evaluations, press releases, synthesis of a broad range of materials, and effective written conveyance of program information to the public and program participants.

Experience developing curriculum.

Strong demonstrated verbal communication and listening skills: public speaking, effective conveyance of program information to the public, program participants, and decision-makers.

Experience working/collaborating with multiple public agencies, NGOs, and individuals in partnerships.

Experience in leadership, and the ability to work and think independently. Knowledge of, and/or experience with, program assessment and evaluation.

Familiarity with social media.

Monthly Salary: $3,900.88 – $5,049 | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. This is a Temporary position.
Temporary End Date: This is a temporary position expected to end one year from date of hire. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment. Funding has been renewed successfully for several years and we expect funding to continue to be renewed.
Background Check: This position has been designated by the department to require a background check because it requires access to children or vulnerable adults as defined by RCW 74.34, engages in law enforcement, requires security clearance, interacts with WSU students in a counseling or advising capacity, has access to personal identifying and/or financial information, unsupervised access to university buildings/property, or other business-related need. A background check will not be completed until an initial determination of qualification for employment has been made.
