Picture yourself, assisting in the performance of journey-level inspections, diagnoses, major and minor mechanical repairs.

Duties

Our Equipment Technician 2, 

  • Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs equipment, this includes vehicles over 15,000 Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) and mechanical equipment such as specialty trucks, graders, backhoes, dozers, heavy trucks, and accessories.
  • Inspects and repairs industrial/commercial equipment, this includes pumps and generators.
  • Performs major overhauls, tune-ups, relining/adjusting brakes, transmissions, and differential replacement and repair.
  • Inspects and makes minor repairs to electrical wiring.
  • Performs general inspections of vehicles and reports deficiencies to lead technician.
  • Performs spot and other minor body and fender work.
  • Independently performs minor preventative maintenance work on equipment and vehicles, this includes, lubrication and servicing crankcases, transmissions, gear boxes, tire rotations and balancing.
  • Performs road tests with vehicles and equipment.
  • Uses a computer to accurately create and update maintenance records.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Work Setting, including hazards:  
    • Work is performed in a vehicle maintenance shop and occasionally on construction sites, hatcheries, and wildlife areas.
    • This includes working in all weather conditions, on rough terrains, riverbanks, and slippery slopes.
    • Bending, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, and lifting 50 pounds repetitively when loading and unloading trucks or moving materials around project site.
  • Schedule:
    • Typically, Monday – Thursday – 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
    • Working overtime as needed/requested, this may include overnight stays and evening and/or weekend work.
  • Travel Requirements: 
    • Travel is required, approximately 10% – 15% of the time, depending on the season.
  • Tools & Equipment: 
    • A variety of shop equipment, including, vacuum gauges, voltage/regulator testers, wheel balancers, drill presses, wheel pullers, jacks, pneumatic tools, diagnostic scanners, digital volt meters, and various hand tools.
  • Customer Interactions: 
    • Frequent interactions between Federal, Local/State agencies and with customers and venders.
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

AND

  • Three (3) years of experience in the performance of preventative maintenance and repairs to diesel, gasoline and small engines while assisting a journey-level mechanic.

Please Note: Successful completion of vocational technical training in heavy equipment, industrial/commercial equipment repair, and/or welding may substitute, year for year, for up to two (2) years of the required experience.

Knowledge of:

  • Rules of safe operation of equipment, state motor vehicle laws, materials used in servicing and maintaining heavy equipment.
  • Rules governing operation of state vehicles, methods, and tools.

Certifications/Licenses: 

  • A valid driver’s license recognized in the State of Washington and an acceptable driving record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) endorsement with current Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
  • Tanker Endorsement.
  • Forklift Certification.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Two years of welding experience.
  • One year of heavy equipment operation experience.
