Position Title: Education Coordinator Supervised by: Executive Director Full-Time: Part-time. 10-20 hrs/wk depending on the season, including some evenings and weekends. Salary and Benefits: $28-32 per hour depending on experience. Benefits include PTO and holiday pay, retirement match, and flexible scheduling for office-based work. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2 years relevant work experience in education, environmental science, communications, landowner/partner outreach, or salmon habitat restoration;
- Flexibility, creativity, and an eagerness to learn and grow while working on a variety of education projects;
- Ability to collaborate with a diverse array of people including students, teachers, project partners, community members, and volunteers;
- Strong interpersonal, public, and written communication skills, with an ability to quickly build relationships whether in person, by phone, or through email correspondence;
- Organized, self-motivated, and able to prioritize effectively to handle multiple program needs and deadlines;
- Comfortable using Google systems, Microsoft Office programs, social media, video conferencing, and graphic design platforms, or a willingness to learn;
- Access to a personal vehicle and ability to travel within King county for work (reimbursed for mileage at the current WA State rate).
SALMON IN SCHOOLS PROGRAM COORDINATION AND IMPLEMENTATION
- Coordinate with teachers regarding participation, schedule, and planning for Salmon in Schools.
- Schedule in-class instruction, provided by a combination of this position and other Mid Sound staff.
- Coordinate tank needs and set up.
- Secure WDFW permits.
- Coordinate and participate in delivery of eggs to school tanks.
- Provide resources to teachers and schools for proper tank maintenance.
- Recruit and organize volunteers and/or staff to support schools in tank maintenance.
- Support schools in transportation needs for field trips.
- Coordinate and lead spring field trips for schools to release fish.
- Plan and coordinate program evaluations with teachers; support implementation.
- Evaluate success of in-class lessons and iteratively improve them over time.
- Coordinate tank cleaning and storage at the end of the program.
- Grant reporting.
MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STEWARDSHIP COORDINATION AND IMPLEMENTATION
- Be the point of contact for middle and high school teachers who want to engage their classes in stewardship activities.
- Coordinate with teachers regarding participation and schedule for stewardship field trips.
- Work with Mid Sound Stewardship staff to schedule field trips.
- Provide outdoor education lessons during field trips.
- Support schools in transportation needs for field trips.
- Plan and coordinate program evaluations with teachers; support implementation.
- Evaluate success of field lessons and iteratively improve them over time.
OTHER
- Assist with identifying funding sources and writing grant applications to support Mid Sound’s future education and outreach work.
- Coordinate and lead fall field trips in year 2 and beyond if funding allows.
- Move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Current education programming takes place in South King County.
- Mid Sound is a small nonprofit and relies on staff members to be flexible, taking on new projects and/or programs as they are collaboratively developed.
