Job Description:

These positions are currently being offered as either a Limited Duration appointment for anyone to apply OR as a statewide Job Rotation to all permanent, current State of Oregon employees (this is includes regular status and limited duration employees who have completed trial service). State of Oregon job rotations require employer approval.
What will you be doing
You will assist the District Forester with providing leadership through policy and operational oversight and direction of program activities for respective district within the Department of Forestry. You will maintain political contacts with local legislators, county commissioners, and maintains close working relationships with the Board of Directors for the District’s respective forest protective association. This includes overseeing certain programmatic functions administered within the District’s geographical area including the Protection from Fire, Private Forests and Administration. This is accomplished by directly supervising, directing, and monitoring the work of subordinate managers, skilled, administrative, technical, and professional employees assigned to the various programs. You will develop, review and approve plans and purchases, and oversee the implementation of plans and strategies at the District level to accomplish agency goals and objectives that are established from the Board of Forestry – Forestry Program for Oregon (FPFO), Agency Strategic Plan and Department’s Mission and Vision.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Candidates whose demonstrate skills, abilities and/or experience in the following:
-
Six (6) years of natural resource experience in areas such as wildland fire suppression, forest management, etc., which include assisting with a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation;
OR
-
Bachelor’s degree in forestry or closely related natural resources field and three (3) years of natural resource experience in areas such as wildland fire suppression, or forest management which includes which include assisting with a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation.

Experience in supervising, directing and leadership.

Knowledge of general principles and practices of budgeting

Ability to develop and maintain strong internal and external working relationships

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Competence in responding to rapidly-changing workloads and in prioritizing work to meet objectives

Can organize and facilitate work on multiple projects simultaneously

Knowledge of Oregon Dept. of Forestry fire policies, regulations and state laws

Demonstrates initiative, foresight and independent judgment on an on-going basis.

Demonstrated commitment to professional improvement and learning

Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of service, workforce diversity, equity and inclusion, team environment, and strong internal communication and alignment.

The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect the additional 6.95%
