Are you project oriented and passionate about keeping the outdoors sustainable and accessible for recreational use? With your expertise you will maintain and repair recreational access area sites to ensure health and safety compliance and appropriate facility conditions.

With that in mind, 
Picture yourself repairing, installing, and maintaining the physical facilities of the access sites, including signs, kiosks, and gates.

With your experience you will safely remove graffiti from signs/facilities using corrosive chemicals and sand blasting equipment.

Duties
Here is what you will be doing,
Maintain agency owned or controlled Public Access areas:

  • Independently clean and maintain vault toilets in compliance with health and safety rules.
  • Construct, maintain, and remove fences and grades, 
  • Maintain and repair parking areas, access roads and boat launches. 
  • Remove litter and monitor public use of access areas.
  • Inform Access Manager of any complaints and advise enforcement personnel on potentially illegal or disruptive activities.

Manage vegetation: 

  • Assist Access Manager with removal of hazardous trees. 
  • Control vegetation and weeds using integrated pest management techniques, including hand pulling, mowing, gas-powered weed removal devices, and applying herbicides in compliance with pesticide laws.

Maintain and repair equipment:

  • Operate and perform preventative maintenance a variety of tools, and equipment including generators, pressure washers, ATV’s, trucks, tractors, and mowers.

Region 3 Office grounds maintenance:

  • Mow, edge, fertilize, spray weeds, maintain an automatic sprinkler system, trim shrubs, rake leaves, and remove snow from sidewalks and parking lot.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work Setting, including hazards:
    • Inclement weather conditions, sometimes over difficult terrain and surfaces up to 90% of the time.
    • Lift and transport supplies and equipment weighing up to 80 pounds.
    • Must be able to negotiate water in emergency situations.
  • Schedule:
    • Typically, Monday – Thursday, 7:00 A.M. – 5:00 pm – may be off schedule due to seasonal demands, emergencies, and time critical assignments. 
  • Travel Requirements
    • Travel up to 70% of the workday.
    • Occasional in-state travel required.
  • Tools and Equipment:
    • Agency vehicles, trailers, power and hand tools, shovels, fence post drivers, pressure washers, welders and torches, tractors, mowers, all-terrain vehicle (ATV), and standard office equipment (computer, copier, scanner).
  • Customer Interactions:
    • Frequent contact with anglers and hunters during field work, as well as neighboring farmers, ranchers, and volunteer groups.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED.

AND 

  • Three (3) years of experience as a Natural Resource Worker 1 or related professional equivalent experience, including performing unskilled forest and aquatic land management, working on a farm/ranch, conducting agricultural enhancement/farming practices, or operating heavy equipment conducting wildlife habitat enhancement practices.

Please Note: College level work in the field of fish, wildlife, or habitat management, agriculture, forestry, or a natural resource science may substitute year-for-year for experience.

Certifications/Licenses: 

  • Valid Driver’s License.

Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:

The following training and certification are agency provided:

  • First Aid training within one (1) year of hire. 
  • ATV/UTV certification within two (2) years of hire. 
  • Chain Saw safety training within two (2) years of hire. 
  • Washington State Pesticide Applicators License within one (1) year of hire. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: 

  • Safely operating motor vehicles including trucks with trailers, tractors, excavators, all-terrain (ATV) vehicles, and utility terrain vehicles (UTV).
  • Safely utilizing hand and power tools including chain saws for metal and wood construction, repairs and grounds maintenance.
  • Heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. 
  • Noxious weed control and herbicide application. 

Knowledge of: 

  • Basics of carpentry, mechanical and facility repair. 
  • Metal prefabrication and welding techniques.
  • Computer software – Microsoft Suite.

Ability to:

  • Keep a daily log of work completed and time spent on all access sites.
  • Repair and maintain buildings, fences, facilities, and equipment.
  • Remove dangerous trees.
