26-27 Thurston Conservation District Water Quality Educator
This is an AmeriCorps/Washington Service Corps national service position. It is contingent on funding and open until filled. Thurston Conservation District strives to conserve and sustain our local natural resources. Located in southern Puget Sound, Thurston County has more than 90 miles of coastline and three major river basins that support native salmon populations. We partner with rural and urban communities and a variety of government agencies. South Sound GREEN focuses on connecting communities and schools for watershed protection. Through this program we aim to inspire a sense of place among youth and adults in their watershed. The member will support our work by assisting with service-learning projects and community action. This position spends a lot of time outdoors in dynamic fresh and saltwater environments. The start date may be flexible into mid-September. We expect to begin rolling review of applications and offering interviews in mid – late May. Monthly stipend amount: $1,942.
Member Duties : The Water Quality educator will support South Sound GREEN’s work to empower students and adults to connect with their watershed and create positive change through service. They will deliver lessons on conservation topics in classrooms and in the field; support a network of over 50 volunteers; create communication pieces for monthly newsletters and social media; evaluate participating students’ knowledge of key concepts of water quality and related environmental issues.
