American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service and Colorado National Monument is seeking ONE part-time Member to contribute to visual information projects alongside NPS Staff. Colorado National Monument is located on the Western Slope of Colorado and preserves one of the grandest landscapes of the American West. The monument has more than 700,000 visitors annually and provides many recreational uses such as bicycling along Rim Rock Drive, camping in the 80-site campground, hiking, rock climbing, and picnicking. The monument is near the towns of Fruita (7 miles) and Grand Junction (17 miles). The surrounding area has a population of approximately 150,000 people. Most community and commercial facilities are located in Grand Junction, including Colorado Mesa University, several hospitals, shopping facilities and churches. The climate is dry, high desert with summer daytime temperatures ranging from 85 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Position Overview: This position will provide graphic design, website, written, and audiovisual production services to Colorado National Monument with a unique emphasis on mental wellness, resiliency, and community connection. Selectee will take mental health content and transform the information into graphically engaging and useful new guides for monument staff. The position designs visual communication aspects of training materials using photos, slides, charts, graphics, posters, and other appropriate means. Selects visual materials to support text and enhance aesthetic appeal of publications and other media. Specifies and decides on placement of text in relation to art, artifacts, graphics, etc.; determines fonts and typographical effects to be used; and plans the effective use of color, textures, and shapes to be used within the design. Works directly with park staff, regions, networks, and partners to maintain and develop web pages (Colorado National Monument intranet/Sharepoint) and social media sites (i.e., Facebook). Using principles outlined in the NPS Interpretive Development Program, plans the technical details of audiovisual products which conveys park-wide interpretive themes to a varied audience. Maintains a sufficient working knowledge of new and emerging technologies and incorporates into products created. Work will be part time/hybrid and the selectee will physically work at Colorado National Monument at least 1 day per week. Work will be performed primarily on a computer using Adobe Creative Cloud software and the NPS Content Management System. The applicant is expected to have fluency in these programs, including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, etc.

This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.

Schedule: 24 hours/week, 4 to 8 hours/day, Mon-Fri, 8:45-5:15 p.m. Mountain Time. While this part time schedule is flexible, the selected individual will be expected to maintain a regular schedule once their hours are set, and they will be expected to be available during their established work hours.

Position Benefits
Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~24 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $500/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.

Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a federal hiring authority upon completion of their term of service. Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or NPS. Please note that this position is part time, ~24hr/week, and hybrid. The member will need to be located within commuting distance of Fruita/Grand Junction, CO.

Provided Training/Orientation: ACE members will receive position-specific training and an orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures, clear guidance on prohibited activities, and networks for support. Specific training will include orientation to the history and mission of the National Park Service and an introduction to the NPS Graphic Identity Program.



  • Fluent in Adobe Creative Cloud Software, particularly Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Premiere.
  • Skilled in writing and editing technical or educational materials.
  • Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts.
  • Willing and able to represent ACE and National Park Service in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
  • Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.

  • Competitive applicants for this position can hold or be pursuing a bachelor’s degree and/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as graphic design, photography, website development, writing, and editing.
  • Knowledge of modern principles of design, content management systems, technical or educational writing, and website development.
  • Ability and willingness to commute to Colorado National Monument 1 day/week and learn the NPS Graphic Identity Program.
  • Deep interest in public lands, preserving parks, mental wellness, graphic design, and educational writing.

Physical Demands, Work Environment and Working Conditions:

  • Physical Demands: Requires frequent sitting, standing at a desk in front of computer equipment and screens. Manual dexterity required for use of various tools, computer keyboard/mouse and other office equipment.
  • Vision Requirements: Requires close, distance, peripheral and depth perception vision as well as the ability to focus.
  • Weight Lifted or Force Exerted: Frequently moves up to [20] lbs.
  • Environmental: Mainly indoor, office environment conditions; indoor air quality is good and temperature is controlled.
  • Noise Environment: Moderate noise such as in a business office with equipment and light traffic.
  • Travel: This position does not require unique travel.

Environmental Conditions/Hazards: The ACE member(s) may encounter environmental conditions/hazards including extreme heat or cold, sun or wind exposure, rocky, uneven terrain, rainy conditions, winding roads, biting insects, and potentially dangerous wildlife. The member is expected to conduct duties in a safe and orderly manner so as not to endanger self, fellow staff/members or resources.

Vehicle and Equipment Use/Safety: If a vehicle is required for the accomplishment of the duties outside of commuting to and from the worksite, one will be provided by the NPS or ACE. Any tools required for the accomplishment of the duties will be provided by the NPS. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), typically provided by the NPS, will be mandatory for any activity that requires it. Strict adherence to NPS and ACE equipment training, certification and safety protocols is required.
